Marcello Liverani
Modern classical / ambient electronics
November 26th
Believe Digital
“Der Wanderer” is a 5-track EP to be released on November 26, 2021 under exclusive of “Believe Digital”.
After the reflections of the album "Shapes" which led from the abstraction of forms to discovery of an enchanted world, another scenario opens up here. A scenario of passage in Liverani's artistic activity already suggested by the title of the work. Der Wanderer is a famous lied by Franz Schubert which condenses in his lyrics the restlessness and, at the same time, the ideal of the romantic traveler.
“I come from the mountains;
the valley steams, the ocean roars.
I wander, silent and joyless,
and my sighs for ever ask: Where?
Here the sun seems so cold,
the blossom faded, life old,
and men’s words mere hollow noise;
I am a stranger everywhere.
Where are you, my beloved land?
Sought, dreamt of, yet never known!
The land so green with hope,
the land where my roses bloom,
Where my friends walk,
where my dead ones rise again,
the land that speaks my tongue,
O land, where are you?
I wander, silent and joyless,
and my sighs for ever ask: Where?
In a ghostly whisper the answer comes:
‘There, where you are not, is happiness!’”
Especially the verse "I am a stranger everywhere" represents the deepest meaning of this work between moments of profound melancholy and tracks where electronics are in search of a primal purity. Furthermore, in this work, the author explores a more narrative mix between his taste for ambient electronics and the classical influences due to his training. The 5 tracks are as the plot of a film in which the traveler returns home in the first scene and remembers his tormented journey in the following scenes.

The 5 tracks are as the plot of a film in which the traveler returns home in the first scene and remembers his tormented journey in the following scenes.
The journey proceeds with a return to a more classical atmosphere. An ensemble, strings and piano, which is transfigured here as in a dream. The strings bring long breaths into a deeply meditative piece.
Berceuse means Lullaby in French. Berceuse is also the name of a musical form for solo piano. These two elements provide the ideal curtain opening of the work with a minimal and calm melody immersed in the timbre of a felt piano that welcomes timbral and intonation "blurs" which represent the return to a domestic and comfortable environment, ancient and Imperfect.
A piece that, unique in the EP, welcomes the use of beats and a more composite architecture. The North Pole is a metaphor of the farthest point that can be reached on a journey. And it is in fact ideally here that the journey arrives: In the crystallization of the cold sounds of electronics and beats.
Here begins the parable of the journey which is, above all, an inner discovery. An icy yet tender majesty is suggested by simple harmonies, electronic poetry, sometimes descriptive, and minimal instrumental elements. The metaphor of the whale as grandeur of the self and ocean as an ideal and distant place.
The EP closes with a piece that shows, since the title, the close relationship with classical music. Claudio Monteverdi's vocal compositions are here an inspiration to integrate a certain use of the voice in an electronic elaboration where the melodies are once again suggested and not immediately revealed. The piece represents a dark and restless closing as in the text of Schubert's lied.
Marcello Liverani is a composer and performer from Sardinia (Italy) with a focus on Modern Classical and electronic genre. Both the EPs had an excellent response, collecting about 600,000 streams in less than 4 months from their release on Apple Music.
An artist who will surely delight Philip Glass, Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds listeners
Marcello Liverani offers genuine music played first with the soul and then with a good dose of technique,
Liverani’s skill set at manifesting moving constructs of extremely artistic contemporary instrumental music is simply amazing, and this timeless compilation of excellent arrangements will live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who love really superb music.
Trough the precious and refined “Shapes Vol1” Liverani has shared with us all the forms, joy and emotional expression that life offers: love sensivity, empathy. Well deserved praise for Liverani

Shapes Vol 2 by Marcello Liverani has to be one of the most listenable ambient creations on keyboards and piano I have had to the pleasure of listening to for quite some time.

Italian composer and performer Marcello Liverani says his new EP has a second inspiration, besides the Zen philosophy that so often informs his gently beautiful work.
In a world that has been (for some of us) chaotically boring or, at best, artificially restful, this type of music is exquisite.
It’s a beautifully composed track that creates just enough tension to keep the listener
Marcello Liverani‘s lo-fi piano EP Shapes is set for release on January 29, preceded by “Tangles” ~ a quiet, contemplative piece that bodes well for the set.
“Opening Inner B” allows Marcello Liverani to explore not only the musical landscape opened up but the emotional landscape unfolding between sparse piano notes, aching reverb and strings set to detune heaven. It’s a beautiful and thoughtful piece.
